How Auctions Work on FlyerWall

FlyerWall auctions bring the excitement of bidding to your local community. Whether you're selling a vintage bicycle or hunting for a great deal on furniture, here's everything you need to know.

Creating an Auction

When you create a new flyer, toggle "Enable Auction" to turn it into an auction listing. You'll set:

  • Starting Price — the minimum opening bid
  • Duration — how long the auction runs (1 to 30 days)
  • Reserve Price (optional) — the minimum price you'll accept. If bidding doesn't reach this, the item won't sell
  • Buy Now Price (optional) — lets someone skip the bidding and purchase immediately

Your auction goes live in your chosen community and shows up on the Auctions page for everyone to discover.

Placing Bids

Found something you want? Place a bid above the current price. Each bid must be higher than the last. You'll see:

  • The current highest bid and total number of bids
  • A live countdown timer showing when the auction ends
  • Quick bid buttons (+€1, +€5, +€10) for fast bidding
  • A confirmation dialog before your bid is locked in

Bids cannot be retracted, so make sure you're happy before confirming.

Proxy Bidding

Don't want to babysit the auction? Set a proxy bid with your maximum amount. FlyerWall will automatically bid on your behalf — just enough to stay in the lead — up to your maximum. If someone outbids your proxy limit, you'll get an email notification so you can decide whether to bid higher.

Buy Now

Some auctions include a Buy Now price. Click it and the item is yours instantly — no waiting for the auction to end. This is great for sellers who want to set a ceiling price and for buyers who don't want to risk being outbid.

When the Auction Ends

When time runs out or someone uses Buy Now:

  1. A deal is created between the seller and the winning bidder
  2. Both parties are notified by email
  3. The seller pays a small 5% success fee to unlock the buyer's contact information
  4. You can then chat in the Deal Room to arrange payment and pickup
  5. Both parties confirm the deal when everything is settled

Tips for Sellers

  • Write a great description — clear photos and honest details attract more bids
  • Set a fair starting price — lower starting prices attract more bidders and often lead to higher final prices
  • Use a reserve price if you have a minimum acceptable amount
  • Choose the right duration — 7 days is the sweet spot for most items

Tips for Buyers

  • Watch auctions you're interested in — you'll get notified when they're ending soon
  • Use proxy bidding for items you really want, so you don't miss out
  • Check the bid history to understand the competition
  • Buy Now immediately if the price is right — don't wait and lose it

Happy bidding!
