When to Use a Regular Flyer
A flyer is a simple listing — post your item with a fixed price, and buyers contact you directly. Choose a flyer when:
- You know exactly what it's worth. If you've checked the market and know the fair price, a fixed listing is straightforward.
- You want a quick sale. Flyers are visible immediately and buyers can reach out right away. No waiting for an auction to end.
- The item is common. Standard items (baby clothes, IKEA furniture, everyday electronics) sell well at fixed prices because buyers can compare easily.
- You're not in a rush but want simplicity. Post it, set a price, wait for messages.
When to Start an Auction
An auction lets the market decide the price through competitive bidding. Choose an auction when:
- You're not sure what it's worth. Rare items, vintage goods, collectibles — let buyers tell you what they'll pay.
- You expect high demand. If multiple people will want the same item, competition drives the price up. That's the magic of auctions.
- You want excitement. Auctions generate buzz. Watchers, bids, and countdowns create urgency that a static listing can't match.
- You're willing to wait. Auctions take time (1–30 days). But the wait often pays off with a higher final price.
The Best of Both Worlds: Auction + Buy Now
Can't decide? Use both. Create an auction but set a Buy Now price. This way:
- Patient buyers can bid and potentially get a deal
- Impatient buyers can pay your Buy Now price immediately
- You're guaranteed at least the Buy Now amount if someone takes it
This is the most flexible option and works great for items with uncertain value but a price you'd be happy with.
